Trained in fine arts in Lille, he works primarily with oil on canvas, developing an expressive and instinctive pictorial language.
His practice focuses mainly on portraiture, particularly representations of African women, where reality and imagination merge. Emerging from memory rather than direct observation, his faces evoke fleeting encounters and reflect the paradoxes of human connections and the complexity of gazes directed toward the individual.
His painting is characterized by broad brushstrokes and vivid colors that are sometimes scratched, blurred, or partially erased, echoing the fragile and evolving nature of memory. Rather than offering clear answers, his work invites questioning and introspection, engaging both the viewer and the artist in an emotional dialogue.
Often describing himself as a traveling artist, Isambourg moves continuously between Europe and the African continent. In 2010, he founded an artistic expression workshop within Village Pilote, a Senegalese association based at Lac Rose dedicated to the education and social reintegration of vulnerable youth.
Alongside portraiture, he also develops a body of work dedicated to landscapes. Following a recent residency in the Sine Saloum region, on the island of Mar Lodj, his paintings capture intimate impressions of light, nature, and daily life. Poetic and dreamlike, his work reflects a deeply humanistic approach, rooted in travel, memory, and shared experience.
